Book Review: The Zahir by Paulo Coelho

Book Review: The Zahir by Paulo Coelho

By Katrina David

The Zahir in Arabic means “visible, present, incapable of going unnoticed” and can refer to a person or an object that gradually takes over our thoughts until we are unable to think about anything else.

In this story, the main character’s wife abandons him without any notice or warning – leaving him to wonder where he went wrong or what went wrong; this in turn takes him down a new spiritual path and allows him to develop a deeper understanding about life, love, himself, and everything in between as he searches for the woman he loves. Coelho is honestly one of the most inspiring writers that I have ever truly followed.

It is guaranteed that I always walk away from each of his books more aware and most definitely, enlightened.

I appreciate knniowg that there were free elections in Iraq in 1953. I would like to know more about the nature of the elections and the situation in Iraq at that time. Can you recommend a good reference? The Afghan situation is described well in the authoritative book Afghanistan by Louis DuPres published by Princeton University Press in 1973 with new editions in 1978 and 1980.I believe that many people in Afghanistan today do remember the elections under the constitution of 1964 which was operative until 1973. Someone who was a student in 1973 ( age 15 or older ) would today be age 46 or older.
